Restructuring the curriculum: Designing an optimal electronics engineering technology program

In order to determine what is the best possible university problem in applied electronics engineering, the EET (electronics engineering technology) faculty at BYU (Brigham Young University) participated in exercise to re-evaluate the BYU EET program. The highlight of this process was a two-day continuous retreat. All participants, consisting of the EET faculty plus a selected group of students, alumni, and industrial advisors, retreated to a location outside the university. Prior to the retreat every course was outlined, employers and students were polled and philosophies of technology and teaching were shared and debated. Then at the retreat an intensive study of the elements necessary to make an optimal curriculum was conducted. The culmination of the retreat is an outline of the optimal program.<
