An Introduction to Teletext and Viewdata with Comments on Compatibility

This paper is written in two parts. Part I is intended to be an introduction to teletext and viewdata for readers, with limited exposure to these topics. Part I also serves as an introduction to the Special Issue of the IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics devoted to Consumer Text Display Systems.
