Frequency domain analysis of the television chroma demodulator and its applications in detecting the effect of phase errors

Phase errors in the chroma demodulator system are often difficult to determine. The purpose of this report is to examine and discuss the possible origin and effects of such behavior. A formula that describes the effects of phase shifting, in the chroma demodulator, to the side bands of the G-Y signal is derived. The report contains (1) a mathematical treatment of the demodulation process (Fourier Analysis), (2) pictorial presentations of the spectrums of R-Y, B-Y and G-Y signals, (3) a discussion on the probable causes of the differences in side bands in the G-Y signal, and (4) an analysis of the differences in side bands in the G-Y signal.
