Integration of simulation model and traffic signal controller

Effective traffic signal control, practical signal controller implementation, and optimum timing design are important to urban operations. Computer simulation programs are often used for off-line analysis. The "real-time, on-line simulation" or "hardware-in-the-loop" design by combining control hardware and performance evaluation is promising. This paper describes an innovative input/output interface design to take advantage of the available simulation models to improve future signal controller design and field maintenance.<
