Blind combiner for space diversity in cellular mobile systems

This paper studies an implementation of space diversity reception. The diversity scheme analysed is the optimum combining. The combiner is optimum in the sense that it maximizes the signal-to-interference-plus-noise power ratio at the output of the antenna array. The novelty of this approach is that it uses a blind adaptive combiner. Therefore, no training sequences are used for updating the antenna gains. The proposed algorithm is based on a cost function which is derived from the Nakagami fading index. The presented combiner is most suitable for operating under slow Nakagami-Rice fading conditions in frequency selective channels.<
