Experimental validation of the minimum energy approach for induction motor control

Induction motors are a reliable and economic choice for a large range of applications. The rapid development of semiconductor technology together with powerful electronic components, provide the use of complex control schemes needed for induction motors when high performance is required. In this paper the concept of minimum energy torque control of induction motors is experimentally validated. This approach is tested and compared with the classical field oriented approach regarding efficiency, performance in the torque regulation problem. The minimum energy approach consists, basically in operating the machine at steady state with minimum magnetic energy and losses given a desired electrical torque, i.e., the reference magnetizing current vector, and therefore the reference rotor flux, will be changing with the desired torque.<
