Identification of electro-thermal model parameters for metal-oxide surge arresters using auto regressive technics [sic]

Electrical system modeling and parameter identification to represent the thermal behavior of metal oxide (ZnO) surge arresters is investigated by means of the auto-regressive models ARX and ARMAX and the inputs and outputs to and from the arrester, which are measured during laboratory experiments. These experiments show the real thermal behavior of the arrester when submitted to an electrical stimulus, to ambient temperature and to solar radiation (3 inputs), in order to measure and to record both the varistor and housing temperatures (2 outputs), using long-distance thermal measurement techniques. The output variables of the arrester are then converted into time series with white noise added to them, for future use in the identification procedure. A discrete mathematical model of the electrical circuit proposed by M.V. Lat (1983) is used for the thermal parameter identification.<
