Power architecture: global power for wireless, data and fiber access

From business definition to strategies, tactics and then down to systems' architecture and their compliance with technical specifications, everything has to be thought and next defined within a "global" frame. The subject of this paper deals with one of the many things which can be globalized in a global telecommunication network-the power. With the increase in competition between "phone" services providers and with the increase in the innumerable services which can now be supplied over the "phone" line whatever this might be: copper, fiber or air, it is imperative to properly look at the power from a new angle and define adequate, common architecture which makes it easy to implement, exploit and maintain power systems for the year 2000 and beyond. This paper analyzes the similarities and suggests a global approach for the power architecture for the newest, fastest growing access technologies: fiber, data and personal communication. The analysis is based on, and starts with existing copper access power systems for both POTS/data and CATV and uses them as the foundation on which the access power systems will be built.<
