The origin of the distribution of dielectric relaxation times in amorphous solids

The distribution function of dielectric relaxation times related to the Curie-vs.-Schweidler law is reduced to the distribution of interatomic distances between the atoms or ions of a solid in the amorphous state. Protons fluctuate between the atoms, generating the dielectric response. The transition probability of the protons depends on the distance between the atoms. Therefore the distribution of dielectric relaxation times has its origin in the distribution of interatomic distances.<>
