Subjective assessment of various methods for scan conversion

In the last few years a large number of different procedures for flicker reduction were proposed. The different types are linear interpolation, nonlinear median filtering, motion adaptive processing, and vertical edge adaptive processing. These methods can be used for conversion to progressive scanning, but also for doubling the field frequency to avoid large area flicker. An experimental system was built to compare the different kinds of flicker reduction methods. Subjective tests show the advantages and drawbacks of each procedure. Based on these results, an optimized algorithm for an edge adaptive processing is proposed.<
