Industrial participation in a VLSI course using video audio, and data communication: evaluation and experimental results

The Pennsylvania State University College of Engineering is one of 13 engineering schools participating in an NSF-sponsored project. The authors describe one project that uses innovative instructional methods for bringing industrial practicing engineers into the classroom. These methods range from in-person lectures to live interactive satellite video links. Evaluation of these instructional projects was performed both individually by each investigation team, as well as jointly from common individual evaluation measures. Data from all schools participating in the NSF project were obtained by a series of common questionnaires. The conclusions drawn from these data are discussed. It is felt that the innovative instructional methods used proved effective in improving student learning.<
