Considerations for the use of multimedia with scientific and technical information: a case study

A team of publications professionals and scientists at the Department of Energy's Savannah River Site combined efforts to create a multimedia database summarizing more than 40 years of ecological research on the site. While many of the issues associated with print publishing are still relevant to multimedia publishing, new issues such as video, data structure, user interface, and software licensing introduce new problems for the project manager. This paper outlines the project management strategies and techniques used and the lessons learned about switching from traditional paper-based publishing to multimedia publishing.<
