Hybrid UTD-MM analysis of electromagnetic scattering by a perfectly conducting semi-elliptical cylinder

When an electric or magnetic line source is located in the presence of an semi-elliptical cylinder, the far field pattern is analysed by the hybrid UTD (uniform geometric theory of diffraction)-MM (moment method) technique developed in this paper. By the reciprocity theorem and the UTD, the known currents are obtained. The basis function for the unknown current in the smooth convex region of the scatterer is assumed and used in solving this problem by the MM. Because of reduced number of basis function employed in the present method, the computing time is considerably reduced in the analysis of large scatterers. Whereas the UTD solution is invalid in the grazing incidence case, the hybrid method can be applied in this case. The numerical results are compared with those of the MM.<
