Some ideas for iterative estimation of atmospheric condition, surface temperature and emissivity

A method for emissivity-temperature separation for a multispectral thermal IR sensor, such as ASTER (Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer) onboard the EOS-a1 satellite is proposed. Based on the well-known radiative transfer equation, assuming that water vapor is the most dominant factor for transmittance and a representative atmospheric radiation, the number of unknown variables in the equation is reduced. Then, utilizing the constrained nonlinear optimization technique, the equation is solved to estimate both emissivity and surface temperature in a certain area.<
