Decameter radar remote sensing of Earth and water surfaces

Summarizes the theoretical and experimental results achieved in the active decametre remote sensing of soil moisture, subsoil water levels and mineralization of freshwater reservoirs. It is shown that the direct estimation of dielectric constant and moisture of soil in the nearsurface layer with a thickness about 1 m are possible in the decametric range. A correlation was reported between subsoil water levels and amplitude fluctuations of the reflected radiation. The high sensitivity of mean amplitude of the reflected radiation to the level of mineralization of freshwater reservoirs has been proved.<
