A reduced complexity adaptive near-far resistant receiver for DS-CDMA

In order to minimize multiple access interference (MAI) the standard receiver for direct-sequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems relies on power control and good partial cross-correlation properties of the code waveforms. The MAI is especially serious in a near-far situation where the received powers from the different users are very dissimilar, as the case might be for a cellular or personal communications system. Several near-far resistant receivers have been proposed. Most of these receivers require considerable complexity and rely on accurate side-information, such as: code and bit synchronization, knowledge of the number of users, each user's code waveform, received power and relative time-delay. In this paper we propose a new single-user single-bit receiver with relatively low complexity and which only requires chip timing information.<
