Throughput analysis for random access protocols in a mobile radio packet network

Analyzes the throughput for random access protocols such as pure ALOHA, slotted ALOHA and nonpersistent CSMA with imperfect carrier sensing in a mobile radio packet network, taking account of the modulation/demodulation scheme, the packet length and the radio propagation characteristic. The results demonstrate that slotted ALOHA is superior to nonpersistent CSMA with perfect carrier sensing for low traffic level and that power control in the mobile station is essential against shadowing and the near/far effect.<
