The DC field dependence of the piezoelectric, elastic and dielectric constants for a lead zirconate-based ceramic

Previous work on the solid solution x.PbZrO/sub 3/(PZ)-y. Pb(Zn/sub 1/3/Nb/sub 2/3/)O/sub 3/ (PZN)-z.PbTiO/sub 3/ (PT) (PZNT) has shown a DC-field-induced ferroelectric-antiferroelectric (AF-FE) transition. The authors explore the electrical field dependence of the elastic constant (s/sup E//sub 11/), piezoelectric coefficient (d/sub 31/), and dielectric constant (K/sub 33/) near this phase transition. Hysteresis results indicate that the location of the AF-FE boundary is between x=92.8% and x=93.2% PZ. Room-temperature dielectric constants near 250 have been measured and can be altered with suitable compositional adjustments. The PZZN phase diagram (PZNT with 0 mol.% PT) has been refined, showing that the AF-FE boundary at room temperature is PZZN(93.2) and PZZN(93.0).<
