The industrial application of simulation to solve transient electric motor drive problems using readily available data

By using a relatively compact set of PC-based programs, an ability to simulate the transient behavior of sophisticated electrical drives in industry has been achieved. By the use of simulation, commonly occurring operating problems, including those associated with switching, reswitching after supply interruptions, short circuits of different types, and sudden and cyclic mechanical load variations are easily addressed. Both synchronous and induction motor drives can be modeled in motoring, generating, or braking modes. It is shown that, using the performance data available from routine tests of the machines, accurate simulations are possible even for cage induction motors with complex deep bar rotor slots. The usefulness of the software has been greatly extended by introducing an extremely easy-to-use on screen input procedure.<
