The mechanics underlying the performance characteristics of fluid-film bearings are discussed with emphasis on the dynamic properties of bearings. Advantages and disadvantages of different bearing geometries are described. Different methods of oil supply are discussed. The characteristics of an innovative bearing configuration, called the hybrid bearing are described.<
