Fast finite element solvers for problems with magnetic materials

Fast algebraic system solvers utilizing multilevel (multigrid) preconditioners are applied to two-dimensional problems with highly permeable magnetic materials. Numerical experiments show that the number of iterations is virtually independent of the material properties. As the number of nodes in the finite element mesh increases, only mild logarithmic growth of the number of iterations is observed, which makes multilevel preconditioners numerically more efficient than the traditional methods.<
