A conceptual model to incorporate knowledge to databases

The authors present a conceptual model that aims at representing data and knowledge. The final goal of this model is to combine database (DB) and knowledge-based system (KBS) methodologies. Through this combination, databases incorporate the inference and knowledge representation mechanisms of the KBS without losing their already well-established data handling capabilities. A three-layered structured model is proposed and its connections are discussed. The current status of the project and its future developments are described.<
