Requirements of a remote monitoring and control system: a power engineer's perspective

The requirements of a remote monitoring and control system (RMACS) are described from the point of view of a power engineer. The general requirements of an RMACS are outlined in terms of its key attributes, such as ease-of-use, accessibility, configurability, modularity/upgradability, data retention, security, and failure indication. Specific needs from an engineering, operations/maintenance, and alarm management point of view are addressed. Emphasis is placed on the application of microprocessor technology to assist the power engineer in meeting the economic and service objectives of telephone companies.<
