Engineering visualisation, a new approach to teaching concepts

In recent years, the emergence of high-quality computer graphics displays has allowed the visualisation of complex scientific and engineering data. The display of such information has led to new areas of study, epitomised by complex dynamical systems, chaos and fractals. In these areas, the method of study has greatly relied on the use of colour graphics images. The human brain is well used to being presented with moving colour images are being able to process such a mass of parallel information quickly. It is because of this ability that presenting information in this way is so attractive. Computer visualisation is a powerful aid to understanding concepts, and from the deeper understanding progress will be made. It is envisaged that in the classroom of the future, more use will be made of such techniques, making the task of both the lecturer and the student easier.<
