Bipartite graph design principle for photonic switching systems

The bipartite graph design principle was used to design a direction-coupler-based photonic switching network with very low crosstalk. It has also been demonstrated that a bipartite graph design principle is well suited for free-space transmission photonic switching systems due to its nonplanar nature. A class of switching networks, also based on bipartite graphs, is proposed. They have many interesting characteristics: O(log/sub 2/N) stages between each inlet-outlet pair, extremely simple path hunt (implied by the inlet and outlet addresses), and self-routing capabilities.<
