A mass assignment theory for uncertainty reasoning

A theory of mass assignments is given, which allows inference under fuzzy and probabilistic reasoning. The theory includes an algebra, a conditioning process for inference under uncertainty and the derivation of a mass assignment from a fuzzy set. Examples are given to illustrate applications to fuzzy control and fuzzy reasoning, and these approaches are extended to include also probabilistic uncertainty. Treatments of causal nets, nonmonotonic logic and probability logic are also illustrated.<
