Optimal traffic scheduling in SDMA/FDMA/TDMA MILSATCOM systems

The authors consider the problem of optimally scheduling user traffic in military satellite communications system using a hybrid space-division multiple access (SDMA)/frequency-division multiple access (FDMA)/time-division multiple access (TDMA) scheme. The minimum frame length required to schedule all the traffic is derived as well as an algorithm for scheduling the traffic in the minimum length frame. Often in such systems, the traffic demand exceeds the system capacity, and the traffic must be scheduled optimally so that system utilization is maximized. For this situation, an expression for the maximum amount of traffic that can be satisfied is derived and a procedure for finding the maximum subset of the original requirements is presented.<
