A new concept for simplified Viterbi detection

The proposed detection method uses different metrics for comparing any two extended paths at detection time K: paths joining a common state at the detection time are compared via a metric which is equivalent to the Viterbi algorithm; paths emerging from a common state at time K-1 are compared via a modified metric.<
