Analysis and design of an active power filter to cancel harmonic currents in low voltage electric power distribution systems

An active power filter to cancel harmonic currents is proposed. The proposed filter is shown to cancel a specific current harmonic as well as several lower-order current harmonics generated by nonlinear loads. The proposed filter is highly efficient and low in cost. The system can therefore be employed to isolate and neutralize harmonics generated by a group of nonlinear loads in a low-voltage electric power system. Experimental results on a prototype system validate the proposed approach.<
