Coupling of magnetic and fluid flow problems and its application in induction melting apparatus

A method of computation for the calculation of the magnetic and fluid flow field in an induction melting apparatus is described. The finite-element method (FEM) is used for the determination of the magnetic field. The calculation of the fluid flow field is done using the finite-difference method. The precalculation of the surface shape is also described. Using the analysis, one can predict and control the intensity of the stirring and the form of the surface and then optimize the coil and the power supply to obtain the optimal intensity of the agitation and the maximum melting power simultaneously.<
