Electric annealing of copper and brass strip

The author discusses an innovative control strategy which evolved from the need to simplify operator control of continuous electric annealing apparatus. He points out problems encountered during the transition from experimental apparatus to production line, which was neither a simple nor was it a smooth, straightforward transition. The prototype, like the laboratory demonstration, was to be controlled manually. Production trials quickly revealed a number of problems with the prototype, among which was the difficulty of setup by the operator, the laboratory method of operation being too complex. The solution to the problems, given that the transition process was far along to start over, are explained.<
