Analysis of the survivability of large MSE networks by a truncated equivalent-links methodology

Realistic deployments of tactical communication area coverage networks such as the mobile subscriber equipment (MSE) system involve large numbers of network nodes, in excess of 30, and of links, in excess of 100. The resulting huge number of possible combinations of node and link failures makes it difficult to perform quantitative analysis for system survivability assessments in terms of such critical measures as multihop connectivity and call delay, under battlefield stress parameters related to jamming and ballistic attacks. A methodology is presented for overcoming this difficulty by using a truncated equivalent-links algorithm for enumerating multihop routing successes to develop a lower bound on connectivity. Calculations of performance measures are given for a hypothetical 34-node MSE network.<
