Mixed-signal ASIC for increased definition television (IDTV) applications

An Increased Definition Television (IDTV) subsystem in a single mixed-signal ASIC device has been developed that processes video data with a combination of motion detection and vertical median filtering, and achieves 2h image enhancement. The implementation required that video Digital-to-Analog converters (DAC) and line memory modules be developed and introduced into the existing digital ASIC process technology and design environments. Chip-level to subsystem-level mixed-signal ASIC simulation is efficient by modeling the modules behaviorally. Design-for-test circuitry was built in to include boundary scan, direct access of modules and sine wave test techniques to verify such characteristics as the maximum sampling frequency, crosstalk, and differential phase and gain of analog functions.<
