Myths and realities of power control

In considering the merits or otherwise of direct sequence CDMA cellular mobile radio system (CCMRS), the issue of power control is frequently raised, often with the implication that the need for it is a significant disadvantage. The paper argues that, on the contrary, the ability fully to exploit the benefits of Fast Accurate Power Control (FAPC) is one of the major strengths of CDMA cellular mobile radio. It describes the need for FAPC and its implementation. Following on from this the key issues concerning FAPC are discussed and the results of a simulation presented.<
