A new approach to global optimization using ideas from nonlinear stability theory

Describes a method for determining the global optimum of a function on a compact manifold. The method determines and connects all the local minima and local maxima of a function on a compact manifold. The method is based on properties of stability regions associated with the equilibria of the gradient vector field. Applications of the method include global optimization and nonlinear equation solving.<
