A universal hardware architecture for communication networks

A universal concept for the design of communication components and its architectural aspects is discussed. Some of the underlying research on communication systems is briefly reviewed. The first practical experiences in the ASIC-realization of the lower layers of the PROFIBUS field bus on the basis of this approach are presented.<
