A comparative study of digital halftoning techniques

Digital half-toning, also known as spatial dithering converts a gray scale image into bilevel output for graphical devices such as cathode ray tube (CRT) monitors or laser printers. The author surveys several digital half-toning techniques such as ordered dithering, error diffusion, and a dithering scheme along the path of a special class of fractals, namely space-filling curves. A comparative study of different techniques of digital half-toning is provided. The frequency-domain analysis of various halftoning techniques is provided to address the issue of texturing effects.<
