A novel method for non-invasive multispectral imaging of tissue

The authors have developed a novel imaging concept which is expected to meet current thermographic system specifications and provide additional information such as true spectral energy present for diagnostics. The frequency modulated reticle imaging thermal energy (FRITE) concept reduces the need for expensive two-dimensional infrared (IR) detector arrays, sometimes referred to as staring arrays. This same FM reticle concept also allows the system to extract more spectral information from the tissue source than is currently done. The goal is to have a single multispectral imager that would image from the ultraviolet (UV) to the far infrared, thus reducing the cost to a medical facility that needed to image in multiple spectral bands. The authors present data and images captured on an existing proof-of-concept system as well as details on the next generation system for medical imaging.<
