Performance of dynamic channel assignment techniques in a cellular environment

Dynamic channel assignment (DCA) techniques have been applied to European cordless telephone systems such as CT2 and DECT, however the technique is yet to be applied practically to cellular systems. The author reports on the performance of several dynamic assignment techniques for cellular applications in terms of capacity and outage making comparisons with more conventional fixed channel assignment techniques. Specific attention is given to sectorized configurations, where there appears to be a particular lack of Published information. The author gives results showing that DCA can increase capacity by up to 5 times that of analogue fixed channel assignments without significant degrading call quality.<
