PZT 0-3 composites using acid based co-polymers

Zero-three lead zirconate-titanate (PZT) piezoelectric composites have been fabricated using powder prepared from ground sintered PZT ceramic of 160-230- mu m particle size and thermoplastic ethylene-acrylic acid copolymers. After initial mixing, this allowed transducers to be fabricated by pressing at temperatures between 120 and 140 degrees C. Samples were corona poled and evaluated for hydrostatic acoustic response using the figure of merit F=gh-dh/tan delta . Superior properties were achieved for specific polymers with the major improvements arising from low tan delta within the matrix.<
