Entropy-based receiver for detection of random signals

An entropy-based statistic is derived for detecting correlated signals in additive white noise. The basic idea behind the approach is that under a constant-energy constraint, the entropy of a received process attains its maximum when the process is white and drops when it becomes correlated. When no signal is present, the test statistic is asymptotically distributed as a central chi-square, which can be used to determine the threshold for a constant false-alarm rate. Computer results are present to demonstrate the receiver performance.<
