Battle damage repair-what's new?

The improvised repair of battle damage to military equipment on the battlefield is a vital part of a repair strategy and one that can win battles. Such battle damage repair (BDR), although improvised, should be carefully planned for, and technicians must be schooled and trained in the special techniques required. While much can be done on the battlefield, BDR can be considerably enhanced during the design phase, where an awareness of the problem can do much to influence equipment design. One such approach to BDR is described, along with a training philosophy. Background experience drawn from operations in World War II and the Falklands campaign, and typical examples of repairs and their influence on design are given.<
