Some aspects of vehicle degaussing

Some baseline principles of armored vehicle degaussing through accurate computer modeling are established. Three main conclusions can be drawn from the modeling: a relatively thin-walled armored vehicle passively creates magnetic field distortions much like a solid vehicle, external degaussing coils appear to be more effective and efficient than internal degaussing coils, and reasonable degaussing appears to be possible. A deterministic control algorithm has been formulated for an active degaussing system. The data processing concepts in the degaussing controller also led to the design of a magnetic compass for armored vehicles.<
