Effect of propagation and processing delays on the throughput performance of a class of multiaccess protocol for high speed radio LANs

The design and throughput performance of a multiaccess protocol applicable to fully connected and homogeneous high-speed radio LANs are presented. The results show that while the propagation and processing delays degrade the throughput increasingly with the delay constant-a factor equal to the smallest integer greater than or equal to the ratio between the two-way radio propagation and processing delays to the packet duration-the protocol still is found to offer good throughputs on the order of 0.4-0.7 for radio LANs of up to a 100-Mb/s rate and 10-km range.<
