An introduction to computer programming for students with no programming experience

The Department of Freshman Engineering at Purdue teaches a one-credit computer literacy course for students with no pre-college programming experience. The eight-week course, offered twice during the fall semester, serves as an introduction to computing on the Purdue campus. Students with a high probability of performing unsatisfactorily in a course that will satisfy the freshman requirements are recommended to take the literacy course. In its first two years, 80% of students who took the course were able to earn a C or better in a programming course that satisfied engineering requirements.<
