Expert system for advising electrical engineering students

An expert system is described which can be used to advise electrical engineering students about courses they can take at the beginning of a semester. In response to student-supplied answers to questions regarding the student's identification number, desired credit hours, and course preferences, the system ascertains if the student has satisfied the requisites and recommends a list of courses for the student to take. Some students found the system user-friendly. The explanation feature of the system is especially appealing since it clarifies the university graduation requirements that the students were ignorant of or might have overlooked. It is noted that with minor modifications, the system can be used to advise students in other institutions.<
