A data coupling paradigm for distributed architectures

Presents a data coupling mechanism for distributed processing. The system virtual memory (SVM) is a fast-access, read-write, block-oriented memory device, separate from every processing element in the system, responsible exclusively for the retention and retrieval of data. A portion of memory of a specified size can be dynamically allocated and deallocated within the SVM. Once allocated, the memory can be accessed for read or write. Subjects discussed include an overview of the data coupling paradigm using global memory; a description of the operational characteristics of the global memory; and a high-level description of the advantages and drawbacks of the use of the data coupling paradigm in distributed processing.<
