Parallel processing in decentralized control of large-scale systems

In real-time control of large systems where computing time poses a considerable challenge to the control engineer, parallel processing offers a very attractive mechanism for handling large amounts of data and therefore reducing the execution time. The authors attempt to combine the two topics so that the full advantage of parallel processing is utilized for enhancing the performance of real-time control systems. A case study is presented where two parts of an interconnected system are controlled separately. The control actions are computed in parallel using parallel computing techniques. The case study demonstrates the huge potential of parallel processing in real-time control of large dynamical systems.<
