The PeakSum system for the EPSI experiment

The EPSI experiment trigger system needs to know how many gamma photons are generated by the K/sup 0/ decay, what their total energy is, whether their Barycentre is on the beam axis, and where is the decay vertex position along the beam axis is: this parameter is related to the second-order momentum value. The PeakSum system was conceived to calculate all these quantities with a convenient precision based on custom VLSI chips. It is a pipelined circuit, designed to work with a pipeline clock period of 25 ns, but its components can be easily redesigned to have no internal pipeline stages.
