Message from the General Chairman

A very warm welcome to the first IEEE International Conference on Engineering of Intelligent Systems (ICEIS 2006). The Conference represents the first occasion where leading experts and keynote researchers from all over the world have gathered together in Islamabad, Pakistan, to exchange latest results, explore new avenues and chart future directions for this cutting-edge interdisciplinary field. The Call for Papers attracted an overwhelming response (with more than two hundred submissions received from outside Pakistan alone), and the Conference Technical Committee had the onerous task of selecting a subset of papers for the Conference Programme, and eventually, using a double blind peer review procedure involving three international referees, accepted approximately 40% of the submissions. This has ensured the extremely high standard for the Proceedings, and augurs well for the success of the Conference. The authors come from 25 countries. In recognition of this, the Conference Proceedings will be included in the world-wide IEEE Xplore Library.
